Newport’s past, present and future will come under the spotlight as the city’s political leader speaks to local businesses.
Councillor Dimitri Batrouni, the Leader of Newport City Council, will be the guest speaker at the City of Newport Business Club’s latest networking event.
Guests will hear from Cllr Batrouni at the event at the Mercure Newport on Upper Dock Street in the city centre on Thursday, May 15.
Cllr Batrouni was elected as Leader of Newport City Council in May 2024.
He has served as a councillor in Newport since May 2022 and has extensive experience in local government, including as opposition leader at a previous council and various Cabinet member roles.
As the Welsh Local Government Association’s lead spokesperson for Digital Leadership, Cllr Batrouni advocates for innovative solutions in local governance.
With an extensive working background in IT, he has worked at both the UK and Welsh parliaments in senior research roles and has lectured in politics at the University of Bristol.
Cllr Batrouni served as Senior Analyst for the Independent Monitoring Authority at the Ministry of Justice, overseeing Brexit and citizens’ rights.
He is an active member of the Cardiff Capital Region, where he leads the Portfolio for Building Capability – Data and Skills, focusing on regional development and digital transformation.
City of Newport Business Club chairman Professor Jonathan Deacon said: “Securing the Leader of the City Council to speak at our event is quite a coup for the club.
