January 15, 2018

On the 22nd February 2018 at 17:30, The City of Newport Business Club is very honored to have Dr. Jackie Harris speaking on the upcoming implications of EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in business. GDPR replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to bring all the data privacy laws across Europe into line with each other as well as to protect, empower and to reshape the way organisations across the region approach data privacy.

Dr. Jackie Harris has extensive experience extends from working in engineering, manufacturing, and international education to software development and work based learning companies. She joined the university in 2003 and has since become a Fellow of the NCGE (UK) and a Chartered Marketer (CIM). Jackie uses her experience to support students and businesses to recognise and develop market opportunities. She teaches on post-graduate, professional and tailored courses in marketing, digital marketing and business development. She is currently completing her PhD in SME marketing and has presented her research at academic and practitioner conferences around the world. She will be providing an easy to digest explanation of what GDPR really means for business owners in Newport and beyond.

Once again, the Celtic Manor’s Golf Club will be hosting the Business Club. You can purchase tickets, which include a two-course meal for £30 via Eventbrite. There are discounts available if you wish to make multiple bookings.

Janet Harris, Chair of the Business Club, said: “with the introduction of GDPR on the 25th May 2018, we felt it was our responsibility to the members of Newport Business Club to provide the information they need to be ready for the changes and make the most of the opportunities GDPR presents.”
